Comprehension rules
Comprehension অর্থ অনুধাবন করা। ইহা Comprehend শব্দ থেকে উৎপত্তি যার অর্থ অনুধাবন করা। প্রদত্ত Passage পাঠে শিক্ষার্থী কতটুকু আয়ত্ব করতে পারে, তা যাচাই করার জন্যই মূলতঃ Comprehension Test দেয়া হয়। Passage এর শেষে কতকগুলো প্রশ্ন দেয়া থাকে। উক্ত Passage থেকে প্রশ্নগুলোর যথার্থ উত্তর দিতে হয়।
1. সমস্ত Passage-টি মনযোগের সহিত কয়েকবার পড়তে হবে এবং বিষয়বস্তু সম্পর্কে বুঝবার চেষ্টা করতে হবে। প্রশ্নগুলোও একইভাবে পড়তে হবে।
2. কোন প্রশ্নের উত্তর কতটুকু হবে তা মূল Passage থেকে সনাক্ত করে নিতে হবে।
3. উত্তর দেবার সময় লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে যাতে প্রয়োজনীয় কোন কথা বাদ না যায় এবং অপ্রয়োজনীয় কোন কথা অন্তর্ভুক্ত না হয়।
4. প্রদত্ত Passageটি Direct Speech-এ থাকলে তাকে Indirect speech-এ রূপান্তর করতে হবে।
5. প্রশ্ন যে Tense-এ থাকবে উত্তরও সে Tense-এ ই হবে।
6. Why দ্বারা প্রশ্ন শুরু হলে জবাবে কারণ খুঁজে বের করে উত্তর দিতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে প্রশ্ন থেকে Subject, Verb ও বাকী অংশ লিখে because বসাতে হয় এবং তারপর প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে why এর উত্তর লিখতে হয়।
Structure: Subject + verb + প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ+ because+ প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে Why এর উত্তর। যেমনঃ-
One day Nadir went to the Bazar for shopping with his father. He saw some sweets in one of the shops and asked his father if he might buy some. His father said, "No, you should not buy sweets from the shop. They are uncovered and there are some flies on them."
Question: Why did Nadir's father refuse to buy sweets from the shop?
Answer: Nadir's father refused to buy sweets from the shop because they were uncovered and some flies on them.
কিন্তু Passage এর মধ্যে for, to, in order to ইত্যাদি থাকলে Because ব্যবহার না করে for, to, in order to ব্যবহার করলেও চলে।
Question: Why did Nadir go to the bazar?
Answer: Nadir went to Bazar for Shopping.
7. Who দ্বারা প্রশ্ন শুরু করলে বুঝতে হবে কোন ব্যক্তির কথা জানতে চাওয়া হচ্ছে। সেক্ষেত্রে প্রদত্ত প্রশ্ন থেকে Subject ও Verb লিখে তারপর মূল Passage থেকে Who এর উত্তর লিখতে হবে।
Structure: প্রশ্ন থেকে Subject + verb + প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে who-এর উত্তর।
Cinema is a wonderful invention of science. It was invented by Alva Edison of America.
Question: Who invented the cinema?
Answer: Alva Edison of America invented cinema.
8. When দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করা হলে Subject + verb ও প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ লিখে প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে When এর উত্তর লিখতে হয়।
Structure: Subject + Verb + প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে When এর উত্তর।

9. Where দ্বারা প্রশ্ন শুরু হলে উত্তরে স্থান লিখতে হবে। সেক্ষেত্রে Subject + Verb ও প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ লিখে প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে Where এর উত্তর লিখতে হবে।
Structure: Subject + Verb + প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে where- এর উত্তর।

10. What দ্বারা প্রশ্ন করা হলে বস্তু বা পেশা প্রসঙ্গে উত্তর লিখতে হবে। সেক্ষেত্রে Sub, verb ও প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ লিখার পর প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে What এর উত্তর লিখতে হবে।
Structure: Subject + Verb + প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ উত্তর। প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে What এর উত্তর।
The energy used by the village people for cooking constitutes about 75% of the country's total energy needs. The main source of this large quantity of energy is firewood.

Which, How বা Whom ইত্যাদি দ্বারা প্রশ্ন শুরু হলে একই ভাবে প্রথমে Subject, verb s প্রশ্নের বাকী অংশ লিখে Which, Whom বা How এর উত্তর প্রদত্ত Passage থেকে লিখতে হয়।
11. প্রশ্নের Subject-এর পূর্বের did থাকলে উত্তর লেখার সময় Subject-এর পর verb কে Past Tense করতে হয় এবং did ওঠে যায়।
12. প্রশ্নের Subject এর পূর্বে Auxiliary verb যেমন am, is, are was, were, can ইত্যাদি থাকলে উত্তর লেখার সময় উক্ত auxiliary verb Subject এর পর বসাতে হয়।
Comprehension করার কতগুলো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়মাবলী:
1. সমস্ত Passage-টি মনযোগের সহিত কয়েকবার পড়তে হবে এবং বিষয়বস্তু সম্পর্কে বুঝবার চেষ্টা করতে হবে। প্রশ্নগুলোও একইভাবে পড়তে হবে।
2. কোন প্রশ্নের উত্তর কতটুকু হবে তা মূল Passage থেকে সনাক্ত করে নিতে হবে।
3. উত্তর দেবার সময় লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে যাতে প্রয়োজনীয় কোন কথা বাদ না যায় এবং অপ্রয়োজনীয় কোন কথা অন্তর্ভুক্ত না হয়।
4. প্রদত্ত Passageটি Direct Speech-এ থাকলে তাকে Indirect speech-এ রূপান্তর করতে হবে।
