Once there was a king named King Lear in England. He wanted to divide his kingdom among his three daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. At first he wanted to know how much they loved him and decided to give the largest share to the one who loved him best. His two elder daughters, Goneril and Regan both proclaimed in fulsome terms that they loved him more than anything in the world, which pleases him.

Cordelia, his younger daughter, spoke temperately and honestly, which annoyed him. In his anger he disinherit her, and divide the kingdom between the other two, Goneril and Regan. After dividing the empire. Lear announce that he would live alternately with Goneril and Regan, and their husbands.

Within a short time Lear could realize his error of judgement. Both Goneril and Regan rebuked him for so much expense on him. They suggested him to cut down but he could not stand such ingratitude. The consequences of his misunderstanding about his daughters prick him all the time, he went out of the house and lived wandering about the deserted land.

When the news of such pitiable condition reache Cordelia, she had to save her father who ran once left her. She with her husband, the king of France , started a war against her two elders who inflicted pain on her father. In the course of the war, the two elder daughters fled away out of fear jealousy and intrigue.

On the other hand, Cordelia was killed though Lear slew the killer. The agony of the death of Cordelia, the only daughter who truly loved him, made him so sad and at one point he also collapse dead on the lap of Cordelia.
