Write a short note on Delphic Oracle

The Delphic Oracle is one of the most significant and revered oracles of ancient Greece. It is located in the sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi. Delphi is the name of a shrine or temple dedicated to Apollo.

It is known initially as Pythia. But when Apollo took it over, he established his famous oracle there. The temple achieved an extensive reputation. It became vibrant as a result of the gifts presented to it. Inside the temple sat a priestess of The Delphic Oracle, who was primarily concerned with questions of religion. 

But the questions pertaining to worldly matters were also answered. People from all over Greece and beyond would travel to Delphi to seek guidance on various matters, from personal dilemmas to state affairs. The Delphic Oracle played a crucial role in shaping the decisions and actions of individuals and city-states. It becomes a cornerstone of ancient Greek religion and culture.

The Delphic oracle plays a vital role in Oedipus Rex. It controls the action of the play almost at every step. It is the very basis and foundation of the whole play. It is noteworthy that the Delphic Oracle enjoyed a high prestige and authority in those days.
