Beloved novel analysis
The novel ‘Beloved’ was published in 1987. It was written by US author Toni Morrison From 1861 to 1865, the novel was written in the background of the American Civil War. The novel was inspired by the biography of African-American slave Margaret Garner. The beloved novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988. In 1998, a novel was created a film with the same name. It was played by famous television presenter Oprah Winfrey.
Howard and Bagler, two sons of Sethe, escaped from home before their grandmother Sage died. Seth's idea is that his house has evil spirits, so his two sons have run away from fear. Everyone thinks that Sethe's dead girl's spirit revolves around her house. Her daughter was killed at the hands of Sethe. The novel begins with Paul D at the house of Sethe. Twenty years ago Paul and Sethe worked together as slaves at Mr Garner's Kentucky home. Since Paul came, she was talking about the old days.
Talking about the old days, Sethe remembers many things in her life, which she forgot so much. Sethe's mother was an African. Although she never saw the mother, Sethe was sold as a slave at the age of 13. The owner of Sethe, Garner was the kind man. Sethe started working as a slave in his house. There she met other slaves. Seixo, Paul D, Paul A, Paul F. and Hal, all worked together as a slave in the house of Garner. Sexton married Seixo They have two sons and one daughter.
After the death of Garner, Mr Garner's brother took over the responsibility of Mrs Garner's request. He is known to the slaves as 'School Teacher'. After taking responsibility, torture came down on slaves. Seth, Paul D and Sixo escaped from Garner's brother and nephews to avoid torture. Paul D found out that Garner's two nephews and Sethe's husband Seixo were killed by Garner nephew. Garner's nephew picked up the Sethe and raped her.
Sethe had sent children to Cincinnati her mothers-in-law before raped her. After the rape, she became pregnant. Sethe ran away from there. A white woman named Amy Denver was pick-up rescued from the jungle. Sethe's daughter was born there. The girl named Denver, named after her.
After 28 days in Cincinnati, Garner's brother came to take Sethe. But Sethe does not want to make children like herself a slave. So she wants to kill the children by herself. Seth killed her third child and the first daughter's throat. Sethe has to go to jail for the murder of the girl. At the time she had her younger daughter Denver.
After getting released from jail, she returned to her mother-in-law. All the people in the area have been frustrated by the Baby Suggs. There she started a new life with children and mother-in-law.
